The IRA federal tax credit is not a tax deduction (Refund) or rebate (Cash). The credit offsets the tax liability owed. If the tax filer has no tax liability, no refund or rebate are received. *

Energy efficient Tiny House owners, including standard house or apartment renters for certain expenditures are eligible for the same Federal tax credits (IRS Form Residential Energy Credits), along with States and power utility companies rebates as traditional home owners.

The Federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit offers additional credits for investing in energy efficient home improvements (Main home only located in the U.S.). Qualified improvements like exterior doors & windows that meet or exceed the Version 6.0 Energy Star program requirements; along with home insulation are designed to reduce heat loss or gain of your home that meet the prescriptive criteria established by the IECC. Earlier in the blog, we discussed how solar batteries, when paired with solar power systems, can offer increased energy independence, as well as backup power.
However, while battery storage tech has improved in recent years - for instance, lithium batteries have replaced bulky lead acid AGM batteries - they remain an expensive addition.
Newer lithium batteries, such as the 9.8 kWh LG Chem RESU10H battery, are powerful and space-efficient, but also costly. The RESU10H costs between $7,000 and $9,000 for the equipment plus installation. However, after the 30% solar tax credit, the RESU10Hs cost comes down to between $4,900 - $6,300. This cost can be further reduced by using some state-specific rebate programs, such as Californias Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP).
However, our analysis finds that even after incentives and rebates, solar batteries dont offer the same payback as solar panels, and are really only worth considering if youre willing to pay a premium for solar backup power.
Tiny houses are, as the name suggests, small. This means that it can often be tricky to place all the solar panels you need on your roof.
Lets assume that you have a power consumption of 4,380-kilowatt hours (kWh) a year - this makes for an electric bill of $622 based on the average U.S. electricity cost of 14.2 cents/kWh, or $1,024 in a high-cost state like California. Covering that much electricity usage with solar panels would require roughly 140 square feet of space, assuming the use of eight 375-watt solar panels, each measuring 17.55 square feet.

The second option is to make your home as energy efficient as possible; the less power you consume, the fewer solar panels youll need to install. The third option is using high-efficiency solar panels, which will generate more electricity in a smaller amount of space.
