Re: Are Lithium Batteries Safe to Stack?
Thanks everyone!
The tubes are shipping containers I get some shop supplies in. They're made of polycarbonate with caps at both ends. The 'top' one has a loop that hooks nicely on the bench wall. There's nothing conductive about them.
I figured these would also work as a way to keep the CR123s from rolling around in the 'junk' drawer of our camper. (the kids would just blast new ones out of the package and let them roll free) I buy the Titanium ones and they come in 6 piece packs, so I cut the tubes to fit 6 cells.
Since there's so much chit chat about the "dangers" of CR123 batteries on this forum and other web sites, I just wanted to be sure my camper, shop, or SUV isn't going to go up in flames while sitting in my yard.
If I can figure out how to post a picture of it I will.

FAQsWhat Happens When You Stack Batteries?
When batteries are stacked, they can experience physical damage, leading to short circuits if terminals touch. Stacking can also hinder ventilation, increasing the risk of overheating. In extreme cases, this could result in battery failure or fire, particularly with lithium-ion batteries that are sensitive to pressure and temperature changes. How to Put Batteries on Top of Each Other?
If you must stack batteries, ensure they are of the same type and fully insulated to prevent contact between terminals. Use a non-conductive material between layers and avoid heavy stacking that could crush the batteries. However, its better to store them upright in designated battery storage containers for safety. Can You Store AA Batteries Touching Each Other?
Storing AA batteries touching each other is not recommended. While alkaline batteries are less prone to short-circuiting than lithium batteries, contact can still lead to corrosion or leakage. Its best to store them in their original packaging or in a battery organizer to prevent direct contact and ensure safety.
